Cowley College to Host Health & Human Services Day October 15

Cowley College will welcome area high school students, adult learners, and community members to its Health & Human Services Day on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cowley College Main Campus in Arkansas City.

The event will spotlight in-demand careers in emergency medical services, fire science, criminal justice, nursing and allied health, public safety, cosmetology, and other related pathways through interactive demonstrations, hands-on skills labs, and expert-led sessions with local partners.

“Health and human services careers are about service, skill, and teamwork,” said Chris Cannon, Director of EMS Education at Cowley College. “HHS Day lets visitors put on the gloves, try the equipment, hear real-world stories, and see themselves in these essential roles—all in one engaging day.”

Event Highlights

  • EagleMed Helicopter Fly-In and aircraft tours
  • Live demonstrations: mock vehicle accident, airway and trauma stations, fire/rescue tools, and a criminal justice simulator
  • Skills labs: forcible entry, vehicle extrication, Jaws of Life Jenga, and extremity splinting
  • Fire Science faculty live burn demonstrating fire behaviors and thermal image camera usage
  • Program showcases: EMS/Paramedic, Fire Science, Criminal Justice, Nursing/Allied Health, Cosmetology, and more
  • Employer & agency expo with hospitals, EMS and fire departments, and community service organizations
  • Admissions, scholarships, and financial aid guidance with on-site support for next steps
  • Food trucks on site

The event is free and open to the public. Prospective students will have the opportunity to explore certificate and degree programs that lead to high-impact careers, learn about transfer options, and discover fast-track training designed to meet regional workforce needs.
