Cowley College Faculty Honored at Welcome Back Inservice
During Cowley College’s annual Welcome Back Inservice for faculty, two outstanding educators were recognized for their commitment to excellence, professional growth, and service to students.
Dr. Scott Layton, Interim Vice President of Academic Affairs, presented the Bill and Judy Docking Faculty Achievement Award to Meg Smith. This prestigious award, given every two years, honors a faculty member who provides exceptional service to students and the college community. Nominees are recommended by their peers and evaluated by an external committee based on professional growth, program and course development, contributions to the college community, student involvement, and goals for professional development.
Letters of support praised Smith’s dedication to students and her collaborative spirit:
- “Meg is unwavering in her mission to provide students with meaningful educational experiences.”
- “Her collaborative efforts with other programs provide students with unique, personalized educational journeys, opening doors to opportunities.”
- “As a highly-involved educator, Meg works tirelessly mentoring students to ensure they have skills needed for their next level of study and future success.”
As part of the award, Smith will receive $2,000 from the Cowley College Foundation, to be used in part for professional development over the next two years.
In addition, Pam Smith presented the Cowley Education Association Paul Stirnaman Award for Teaching Excellence to Brook Istas. Established in 2002 in memory of Paul Stirnaman, this peer-granted award recognizes a faculty member who exemplifies teaching excellence, professional service, and dedication to both students and colleagues. Criteria include years of service, CEA membership, leadership roles, and demonstrated commitment to the classroom.
Dr. Layton expressed his appreciation for the honorees, stating: “I have worked with both of these professionals for over 10 years, and I believe they are more than worthy of these recognitions. Their dedication to students and their commitment to academic excellence truly reflect the spirit of Cowley College.”
Cowley College congratulates both award recipients for their continued impact on students, colleagues, and the wider college community.
