Cowley College A-Team Wins Kansas Quiz Bowl State Championship with Perfect Record

Cowley College’s A-Team dominated the Kansas Community Collegiate Quiz Bowl State Championship in Salina, KS, finishing 7-0 and securing the traveling trophy and an $800 scholarship. They claimed decisive victories, including a 450-40 win over Seward County and a 410-120 win against Allen County.

The top three teams earned the following scholarships:

  • First Place: Cowley College ($800 & traveling trophy)
  • Second Place: Seward County ($600)
  • Third Place: Allen County ($400)

Moderators awarded the sportsmanship honor to Seward County.

Among 29 competitors, Cowley’s Ian Aggson ranked 1st overall, answering 54 tossups, averaging 8 per round. Other notable finishes:

  • Larry Marczynski – 12th
  • Tyson Lazier – 13th
  • Cole Batten – 16th

Cowley’s B-Team competed in the Junior Varsity Division, finishing 7-0 against Garden City B. Standout players Jimmy Ball and Mollie Edge ranked among the top competitors.

This championship marked the season’s final competition allowing Cowley College to reaffirm its reputation as a powerhouse in the collegiate quiz bowl. The last time Cowley earned first place was in 2015, and Cowley students have maintained their ability to stay in the top four, so this win was extraordinary!

“I am so proud of both teams,” said Dianne Flickinger, Cowley College Quiz Bowl Coach. “Their dedication and teamwork truly paid off.”
