Audience treated to theatre production of THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST
Performed on the stage of the Robert Brown Theatre, Cowley College’s Winter Play, THE IMPORTANCE OF BEING EARNEST by Oscar Wilde, was performed February 15-17 in front of an attentive audience.
The Importance of Being Earnest is the most renowned of Oscar Wilde’s comedies. It’s the story of two bachelors, John ‘Jack’ Worthing, played by Spencer MacLaughlin, and Algernon ‘Algy’ Moncrieff, played by Xavier Huffman, who both create alter egos named Earnest, to escape their tiresome lives. They attempt to win the hearts of two women, Gwendolyn Fairfax, played by Gwyneth Abrams, and Cecily Cardew, played by Kaycee Schulte, who, conveniently, claim only to love men called Earnest. The pair struggle to keep up with their own stories and become tangled in a tale of deception, disguise, and misadventure. The elaborate plot ridicules Victorian sensibilities with some of the best-loved, and indeed bizarre, characters to be found on the modern stage.
The play was directed by Nick Albrecht, with technical direction by Jason Huffman. The production gave the audience much to enjoy.
